Karimun Jawa, Jawa Tengah



     Karimunjawa is a sub-district in Jepara, Central Java which is an archipelago in the middle of the Java Sea. Located about 83 km north of the city of Jepara, Karimunjawa Islands consists of 27 islands, but only 5 islands are uninhabited. The main tourist potential of the Karimunjawa Islands is the beauty of the sea. Because of the tourism potential of the marine park, the archipelago was designated as one of Indonesia's national parks in 2001.

     According to local people's story, the origin of Karimunjawa's name is from the story of Shaykh Amir Hasan, son of Sunan Muria who is naughty and is a disciple of Sunan Kudus. He was thrown into the archipelago when viewed from a distance called the cucumbers in the Javanese language or mean vaguely in the Indonesian language. Over time, the islands are familiarly called as Karimunjawa Islands.

     Tourist attractions that have been designated as Indonesia's national marine park has more than 90 species of coral, and more than 240 species of fish. On some islands you can see mangrove forests and coastal forests. In addition you can also find some types of animals on the mainland, such as deer, monkeys, various species of birds, turtles, and others.

How to Achieve Karimunjawa Islands

there are 2 ways to get to Karimun java island :

1. The sea route is the most commonly used route for tourists to visit the Karimunjawa Islands. There are 3 choices of boats that can take you to this tourist spot, namely fast motor boat Kartini, Maritime ship Expres, and passenger motorcycle Muria. When using a fast motor boat Kartini, you will travel about 4 hours from the Port of Kartini. When using the Maritime Express boat, you will travel about 2 hours from the Port of Kartini. By Kartini motor boat you will reach Karimunjawa harbor in approximately 6 hours. Keep in mind that weather conditions and waves are very influential on the voyage, so it could be the voyage postponed or canceled when the weather is bad.

2. In addition to using ships, you can also use airplanes. The use of aircraft to Dewandaru Airport on the island of Kemujan, Karimunjawa is less well known probably because the price is more expensive when compared to using ships. You can use the aircraft from the airline Merpati Airlines, Sky Aviation, and Wings water from Ahmad Yani Airport, Semarang. The origin of the name of Dewandaru Airport is quite interesting, namely the taste of the name of a tree that is only in Karimunjawa Islands. According to local people's stories, if you take and bring home the Dewandaru tree wood, then the ship you are traveling on will be drowned.
